Commissions

PTC has a history of commissioning emerging playwrights through its program, The News. From 2006-2009, ten new plays were commissioned, eight of which have gone on to full production, many with multiple presentations. The News writers are: Meg Braem, Lisa Codrington, Dave Deveau, Waawaate Fobister, Matthew Heiti, Miranda Huba, Jason Maghanoy, Anita Majumdar Tanya Marquardt, and Hannah Moscovitch. We hope to re-launch the News as the BC arts funding situation improves.

PTC occasionally participates in one-off commissions, particularly when the development of the project intersects with our interest in innovation. Recently, we co-commissioning the PodPlays with Neworld Theatre. The linked audio walking plays were presented at the 2011 PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. In celebration of Vancouver's 125th anniversary, PTC and Neworld have commissioned a new group of 5 PodPlays. These new PodPlays will roll out as weekly podcasts beginning July 2011.
